When taxiing on airports the aircrafts engines
combust a large amount of fuel.
But in addition to fuel costs and engine wear, cost for foreign object
damage incur.
Main reason for foreign object damage is the huge
amount of air, moved by modern jet-engines.
Already under idle conditions huge amounts of air are sucked into the
jet-engines.
In this regard, the arising suction effect puts
jet-engines in danger due to the fact, that not only dust but also
large objects (FODs) can be sucked into the engines and damage them.
According to the internet, Airbus quantifies the
total amount of FOD costs of 350 million US$ a year.
While taxiing, jetTRACS reduces the FOD risk to
zero, because jet-engines remain turned off.
